 Dr. Boxrud’s Educational Background

Dr. Cynthia A. Boxrud is a medical specialist and one of only 4% of female surgeons in the United States who holds two “fellowships,” medicine’s most advanced formal training. A 1978 graduate of Manhattan School of Music, New York City, she spent several years conducting as a professional. She is an accomplished pianist who has written a number of compositions.

She completed pre-medical school at Columbia University, medical school at Case Western Reserve University, and did her residency in Ophthalmology at New York University. Dr. Boxrud completed her first fellowship in orbital surgery and Ophthalmic Oncology at New York Hospital/Cornell in New York, and the second in Orbital Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Jules Stein Eye Institute, UCLA in Los Angeles.

Peer Recognition

From 2001 through the present year, Dr. Boxrud has been elected by her peers into America’s Top Doctors, America’s Top Ophthalmologists and America’s Top Cosmetic Surgeons. She was recognized as one of America’s Top Doctor’s for Cancer in 2005.

Articles & Educational Commitment

Her research has been published in numerous medical journals including: Dermatological Surgery, American Journal of Ophthalmology, Nursing, British Journal of Ophthalmology, Investigative Ophthalmology, and Visual Science. She has authored numerous chapters in medical reference books and academic texts as well as designed many courses in aesthetic surgery, including the bi-annually minimally invasive aesthetic course at UCLA.

Dr. Boxrud is committed to faculty work, mentoring up and coming surgical specialists and maintaining awareness of leading edge procedures in her area of expertise. She is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Jules Stein Institute/UCLA and at Providence St. John’s Hospital. She has previously been on staff at Children’s Hospital at USC and Providence St. Joseph’s Hospital.
